Bernard Cornwell does great historical fiction—the Saxon chronicles (you may have seen The Last Kingdom on Netflix) is like Tom Clancy but with Viking ships instead of submarines. Lots of Dark ages battle strategy, the kind of thing you’ll like if you like that sort of thing.
I wouldn't have put the Saxon Chronicles in the Thriller genre, though... :) ... let alone the techno-thriller genre, even with Dane ships substituted for submarines.
In the historical fiction genre, I very much like the Long War series by Christian Cameron. It's action packed etc. but also feels like a nice introduction to early Classical Greece/Persian Wars and the world back then...
If you haven't already read them, I can highly recommend Michael Connelly's Bosh series. My personal favorites are "The Black Echo" (first book published) and A Darkness More than Night - a superb mixing of characters from different series, all existing in the Connelly's LAverse.
