We’re in a bit of a lull, movie-wise; SteelyKid has gotten obsessed with some troupe that writes spoof musicals and puts them on YouTube, and only wants to watch those, and The Pip is mostly just in it for the popcorn. We’re supposed to be going on vacation next weekend (pandemic permitting); hopefully that will shake things up some.
Gunpowder Milkshake:
The Pip initially refused to watch anything on Friday, saying he was going to continue his Pokemon videogame instead. So I scrolled around a bit and decided I was in the mood for dumb stylish violence, and just as I hit play, he shut off the Switch and said “What’s this, then?” So, it’s actually a good thing I had decided I was too tired to go with The Last Duel…
This is, as advertised, dumb and stylish and violent, and pretty much exactly what we needed Friday night.
National Treasure:
This occurred to me a little while back when The Pip was doing a bunch of American history stuff in school, and he agreed to give it a shot. This was very Disney, a stark contrast to the previous evening’s fare— they don’t even kill the eminently killable Sean Bean. It was enjoyable enough; The Pip particularly liked Riley.
It did occur to me that he would very likely enjoy Con Air, a much wackier Nic Cage performance, so I’ll file that away for some future weekend.
And that’s it for the week. Barring a late-season snowstorm, I’m probably going to be doing a lot of biking-to-nowhere from here out, so there will be various streaming series popping up in here. Anyway, here are some buttons:
and the comments will be open.
Don’t forget about Face Off!
The Last Duel is okay for kids, frankly. The violence is mild at most and the rape scene is pretty subdued.
They would most likely not like it due to the structure of the story. 3 different POVs going through many similar events is an interesting way to go about a film but not sure it'll work for kids...
