Three movies this round-up, because we only ended up watching one movie last weekend, because I took the kids down to my parents’, and a one-movie round-up seemed silly.
Mission: Impossible:
On our return Sunday (earlier than planned, on account of the snow forecast for Monday), The Pip wanted a movie so we scrolled around a bit and found this in the Prime recommendations. This is the first one, with De Palma directing, and it’s full of weird angles and stuff to remind you who’s behind the camera. The Pip did a bunch of “Oh, that’s what all those cartoons have been referencing…” during the famous NOC list heist.
Iron Monkey:
We’ve had good luck with kung fu movies, so thought we’d try one with a lot of wire-work. As is often the case, the plot is pretty dopey, but the fight scenes are great.
Spaceballs:
The Pip initially declined a movie last night, but then decided he wanted an excuse to eat popcorn, so we opened up Amazon and this was right at the start of the recommended movies list. Like a lot of Mel Brooks, the humor is pitched squarely at twelve-year-old boys (which is to say, groin level), so this was great for The Pip (who’s only ten, but precocious…).
And that’s what we’ve been up to in our exploration of the art of the cinema. No biking-to-nowhere watching from me this week, because we finally got some snow, so I’ve been cross-country skiing instead, which is a vast improvement as far as I’m concerned. Here are the traditional buttons:
