Three movies with kids this week, because The Pip spent a couple of days at home after getting stitches in his knee:
White Men Can’t Jump:
I talked in detail about my reaction to re-watching this. The Pip just enjoyed the basketball and the trash talk (and cringed theatrically at the scenes with Woody Harrelson and Rosie Perez).
The Golden Child:
We were scrolling through Amazon Prime recommendations, and The Pip recognized Eddie Murphy in the thumbnail, and asked for this. The fact that it almost works is a testament to Murphy’s megaton charisma, because the plot is dumb and the effects in this are Not Good. Even by the standards of 1987.
The Princess Bride:
This apparently came up at camp the other day, and SteelyKid complained on the ride home that I had shown both kids this on days when they were home sick, so both of them are kind of hazy on what happened. We had some folks over for a backyard cookout Saturday afternoon, so it was a good evening for something very low effort for the adults, so we showed it to the kids when they were relatively clear-headed.
Both SteelyKid and The Pip loved it, which is a good thing, because it’d be reallly hard to have to disown them.
That’s it for this week. I stayed up to date with Only Murders in the Building and watched a couple of episodes of Outer Range while riding the stationary bike, but as usual will report on those once I finish the series.
If you want to hear about that as soon as it happens, here’s a button:
If you would like to quote favorite lines from TPB, or make fun of the shoffy VFX in TGC, the comments will be open:
Disown them,firm but fair! 😜
